Homemade Snickers – But Easier

Confession: I have zero self control around these. They’re technically “bites,” but let’s be real, three equal a serving in my house (five if no one’s looking).

These little squares taste like a homemade Snickers bar that went on vacation and came back more sophisticated. You’ve got creamy peanut butter fudge, crunchy peanuts, a dip of milk chocolate, and a caramel drizzle to seal the deal. No candy thermometer, no fussy layers, just melt, mix, chill, and try not to eat them straight from the pan.

Perfect for holiday trays, after school snacks, or that “oops, company’s coming over” moment when you need something impressive fast (and secretly easy).

Why You’ll Love These Snickers Bites

  • Four flavors in one bite: peanut butter, peanuts, chocolate, caramel, need I say more?
  • No bake, no fuss: melt, mix, chill. That’s it.
  • Great for gifting: they look fancy but come together in minutes.
  • Make ahead: they keep beautifully in the fridge, perfect for parties or sneaky late night snacks.
  • Customizable: dark chocolate, extra caramel, more peanuts? Go wild.
ingredients needed to make snickers bites.

Before You Start: Tips & Ingredient Notes

  • Peanut Butter: Use creamy peanut butter, not natural, the oil separation in natural PB makes the fudge base greasy and soft. Salted or unsalted? Both work, but if your peanuts are salted, go unsalted PB to balance things out.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: This is what keeps the base creamy and set. Don’t swap for evaporated milk. Totally different thing, totally sad results.
  • Peanuts for Crunch: Rough chopped peanuts are key for that “Snickers” vibe, whole peanuts feel awkward, finely chopped ones disappear. Salted peanuts are classic, but honey roasted? Next level.
  • Chocolate Coating Tips: A splash of vegetable oil in the chocolate keeps it glossy and smooth when dipping. Melt chocolate low and slow (microwave in 30 second bursts or double boiler). Scorch it once and you’ll never forgive yourself.
  • Caramel: Store bought caramel is fine, just warm it slightly so it drizzles instead of plopping in sad blobs. Want it extra? Sprinkle flaky sea salt over the caramel while it’s still tacky. Instant upgrade.
  • Chill Time Is Non‑Negotiable: Two hours in the fridge makes cutting easier and dipping cleaner. Rushing this step = sticky disaster.

Serving Suggestions

These little squares don’t need anything, they’re perfect straight from the fridge, but here’s how I love to use them:

  • Holiday trays: Tuck them between cookies and truffles for a candy shop vibe without the candy shop effort.
  • Dessert boards: Pair with fruit, pretzels, and other bite size sweets for the ultimate movie night spread.
  • Gifting: Wrap a few in wax paper or pile into a cute jar for neighbor gifts, teacher treats, or that friend who “doesn’t need anything.”
  • Potlucks and parties: They hold up great at room temp for hours, so you’re not babysitting melting desserts.
  • Sneaky freezer snacks: Honestly? My favorite. Grab one straight from the freezer for that perfect chewy cold texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use natural peanut butter?

You can, but I don’t recommend it. The oil separation in natural PB makes the fudge base greasy and soft. For best results, use creamy commercial peanut butter (like Jif or Skippy).

Can I swap the milk chocolate for dark or white chocolate?

Absolutely. Dark chocolate makes them richer (and a little less sweet), white chocolate makes them look extra fun for holidays. Just keep the drizzle and peanut combo, that’s the “Snickers” magic.

How long do these keep?

Stored in an airtight container in the fridge, they’ll last up to 2 weeks. In the freezer? Up to 2 months. (Spoiler: they never last that long around here.)

Do they have to stay refrigerated?

Yes, the peanut butter fudge softens at room temp. They’ll hold up for a few hours on a dessert tray, but long term storage is best in the fridge or freezer.

Can I make them ahead for a party?

Yep! Make them up to 3 days ahead and keep chilled. The caramel drizzle firms up nicely, so they’re grab‑and‑go ready.

Can I skip the caramel drizzle?

Technically yes, but then they’re just peanut butter fudge bites. The caramel is what makes them Snickers-y.

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • ½ cup salted peanuts (roughly chopped )

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the peanut butter, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and well blended (about 3–4 minutes). Remove from heat, then stir in the vanilla extract and chopped peanuts.

  • Pour the warm mixture into a lined 8×8-inch baking pan. Smooth the top with a spatula. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until the mixture is firm enough to cut into bite sized squares.

  • In a microwave safe bowl, combine the milk chocolate chips with the vegetable oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. Alternatively, melt over a double boiler.

  • Cut the chilled fudge base into bite sized squares. Using a fork or toothpick, dip each square halfway into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the dipped pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet. While the chocolate is still soft, drizzle a thin layer of caramel sauce over the top of each bite.

  • Refrigerate the assembled bites for an additional 20–30 minutes to allow the chocolate and caramel to firm up. Once set, store the bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Equipment

  • 8×8-Inch Square White Porcelain Casserole Dish

Notes

  • Peanut Butter: Use creamy peanut butter, not natural, oil separation makes the base too soft.
  • Peanuts: Salted peanuts bring that Snickers vibe; honey roasted is also amazing. Chop them, don’t pulverize them.
  • Chocolate Coating: Add a splash of vegetable oil to keep the melted chocolate smooth and glossy.
  • Caramel Drizzle: Warm it slightly before drizzling so it flows instead of clumping.
  • Storage: Store in the fridge up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Make Ahead: Perfect for holiday trays, dessert boards, or freezer snacks, make a batch now, thank yourself later.
